ABOUT THE TEACHERS
Steph has been dancing since the age of 6 and is well practised in Freestyle, Street, Latin American, Ballroom and Rock N Roll dance. At 14 she decided to start her own little fun dance group in Ringstead Village Hall and this is where Step N Grooves was born, 23 years ago. Over the following few years she threw herself into her teaching exams taking 8 Professional teaching qualifications under the N.A.T.D (National Association Teachers of Dancing) Steph has most recently been appointed as a dance examiner for the N.A.T.D and has been asked to join the N.A.T.D Street dance committee. She holds the highest possible Fellowship Freestyle & Street teaching qualifications, at a Highly Commended, which enables her to train other dance teachers in these genres. She most recently took her Licentiate Street qualification (May 2022) & Fellowship Street qualification (Apr 2023) receiving her highest ever professional marks at 97/100. Steph also gained a top Distinction in her Level 4 Dance Teaching Diploma in 2020. Her diploma exam report read “An excellent submission demonstrating skills of an effective and sensitive, advanced teacher.”
From day one Step N Grooves grew in size with continued success. Steph always wanted the school to focus on building confidence, making friends & encouraging dance ability in a non competitive environment. This has been the key recipe for an unmeasured amount of talent from its pupils. Their growth is sensational.
Steph completed her Level 4 Diploma during lockdown, in order to gain another industry recognised level of competency in dance performance, experience and teaching, She was assessed in all manner of skills including planning, class delivery, health and safety and experience. In May 2020 she also received a Distinction for a Diploma in Counselling Children & Adolescents to hopefully be able to offer future sessions & workshops that purely focus on overcoming anxieties and promoting mental wellness through dance & movement. Steph is married with 2 children, Poppy (13) & Theo (10).
Katie began with Step N Grooves aged 6 years old. 17 years on Steph counts her as one invaluable third of the Step N Grooves Dream Team. She began assisting Steph in classes as a teen alongside taking her amateur dance examinations and has since taken her first two Student and Associate Freestyle Professional exams, as well as her Associate Street in June 2022. Katie’s Associate professional exam report said “Katie clearly and confidently demonstrated good knowledge and understanding of each element of this exam. She has a lovely teaching personality.” Katie began her first Street class in Thrapston in Jan 2018 and is beginning two more in Kettering in Aug 2023. Katie is also a hairdresser at Glam R Us in Weldon.
Frances started with Step N Grooves aged 4 years old. She was cripplingly shy, but 20 years on is now a qualified teacher. Proof of how far you can come! She is the third part of the Step N Grooves Dream Team again helping Steph in classes while taking her amateur examinations. She has also completed her first two professional Freestyle examinations and her last report said “Frances delivered all elements of the exam clearly and with confidence. She will be a very good teacher. Well done Frances!” Frances started teaching her own classes with Step N Grooves in March 18 but now, post covid, enjoys supporting Steph’s classes on a Saturday morning and Wednesday evening.
